Middleton in Teesdale was originally a small market village but grafted on to it was the
industrial company town of the London Lead Company which was established here in 1815.
Farming is probably now the most dominate ‘business’ in the area, with tourism coming in a
very close second.
Middleton is home to a variety of shops, post office, a bank,(two cash machines are also
located throughout the village), tearooms, inns, restaurants, two churches and a chapel.
There are many places of interest within easy reach including the traditional market town of
Barnard Castle. Other beauty and tourist spots include; High Force Waterfall, Bowlees
Visitor Centre, Gibson's Cave, Cauldron Snout, the magnificent Raby Castle and Bowes Museum.
